Shropshire’s drug and alcohol team supports National Alcohol Awareness Week
Shropshire’s drug and alcohol team is encouraging people to start thinking and talking about their drinking habits as part of National Alcoholic Awareness Week (Monday 19 November to Sunday 25 November 2012).
As part of the campaign, the team are asking people to come along to a couple of events hosted by Aquarius, the organisation who supports and provides treatment for individuals, or someone they know, who are affected by drug or alcohol misuse.
The events are taking place at the Market Square in Shrewsbury from 9am to 4.30pm on Friday 23 November and Saturday 24 November 2012.
National Alcoholic Awareness Week is an annual campaign organised by Alcohol Concern. This year’s theme, “It’s time to talk about drinking”, is focused on getting people talking about their alcohol consumption.
Shropshire’s drug and alcohol team work with agencies such as Aquarius, who offer a free and confidential counselling service for people in Shropshire concerned about their own, or someone else’s, drinking.
Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for substance misuse, said:
“Shropshire’s drug and alcohol team work with many organisations to help support people and their families affected by drug and alcohol misuse.
“With the run up to Christmas, where we see an increase in alcohol consumption, it’s important that people know the dangers of drinking too much alcohol. It’s also vital that people who are drinking too much know how to get the advice and support they need. Their families and friends also need to know how to get help. I would encourage anyone seeking advice on alcohol consumption to come along to the events.”
