Shropshire Broadplaces are helping people find a bigger life online

Volunteers at community IT centres around Shropshire are helping people to find a bigger life online by running events as part of national campaign, Get Online Week (Monday 15 October – Saturday 21 October 2012) .

Anyone who wants to learn IT skills will be very welcome to get a taste for what the internet has to offer with some friendly help and support.  Shropshire Broadplaces are supported by Shropshire Council. 

Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for flourishing Shropshire communities, said:

“While there are a lot of people who have never been online before, there are also a lot of people who can do a little but want to do more.  During Get Online Week, we’re giving them the chance to come along to an event and brush up their skills with a helping hand from our staff and volunteers.  Whether people want to learn to email, or find out how to save money online, there’s really something for everyone.”

Get Online Week is the largest campaign in the country that helps people to improve their computer and Internet skills so they can take advantage of all the online world has to offer. 3,000 events will be taking place this month throughout the country, so people can find a local place to brush up their skills.

  • Chirbury Village Shop – Wednesday 10am-midday
  • Gobowen Pavilion – Thursday 10am-midday
  • Leebotwood Village Hall – Thursday 7.15pm–9.15pm
  • Llanymynech Village Hall – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10am–midday
  • Loppington Village Hall – Tuesday 10am-midday
  • Ludlow – Rockspring Community Centre – Thursday 9.30am–12.30pm
  • Much Wenlock, Fire Station – Tuesday 3pm–5pm, and Friday 1pm-3pm
  • Pontesbury Public Hall – Thursday 2pm–8pm
  • Quatt Village Hall – Tuesday 7pm–9pm, Wednesday 10am–midday, and Friday 2pm–4pm
  • Ruyton XI Towns, Victoria Room – Friday 11am – 3pm
  • Shrewsbury, Castlefields Cyber Café – Tuesday 1pm–3pm
  • St Martins Community Centre – everyday at midday-2pm, except Wednesday

  • Get Online Week is the biggest campaign in the country that supports people to improve their computer and Internet skills, and is run by national social enterprise Online Centres Foundation.
  • Now in its sixth year, this year’s campaign aims to encourage people to improve their skills so they can do more online.
