Shropshire Council has got together with Oswestry Town Council and Shropshire Enterprise to offer young business-minded people free information and support.

Open to people under 25 who are thinking about setting up their own business, a number of business start-up clubs will take place in Oswestry over the coming weeks.  The first one will take place on Tuesday 9 October 2012 from 5.30pm until 7pm in the Guildhall.

They will focus on basic start up information and help young people put together a simple business plan, as well as help with sales and marketing, access to finance and promoting their new enterprise.

Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for business support, said:

“There has recently been an increase in young people starting up their own businesses, and these clubs will hopefully support these as well as encourage others to follow in their footsteps.”

Vince Hunt, local Shropshire Councillor for Oswestry West, said:

“I’d like to encourage businesses to come along and meet other people planning the same self-employed future.  At the event they will be talking about developing ideas, naming the business, branding, pitching, connecting to other new start-up businesses, making contacts with existing business owners and local network groups and registering online with the start-up forum to receive daily business tips.”

Martin Bennett, a local Shropshire Councillor for Oswestry East, said:

“Starting up a new business can be a challenge, and I am pleased that this initiative will enable young people to find out how they can meet that challenge.  I hope that learning how to do it will lead to opportunities for new business start-ups.”

Tickets are free but registration is absolutely essential, via www.startuposwestry.eventbrite.com

Start-up clubs will run in Oswestry for a year, starting on 9 October and then every second Tuesday of the month after that. They will also connect all new young start-ups to the Young Britain campaign that has launched in the county.
