Shropshire Council, in partnership with local organisation Shrewsbury Action Against Racism (SAAR), is inviting local organisations and football teams to join with them in the fight against racism in the annual ‘Kick It Out Cup’ at Shrewsbury Sports Village on Thursday 1 November 2012.

This will be the eigth year of the tournament in Shrewsbury, which has seen the ‘Kick It Out Cup’ expand each year with the support of organisations like West Mercia Police, Severnside Housing and HMP Shrewsbury Prison Officers football teams.

Tournament organiser, Steve Cunningham said:

“Racism continues to be highlighted as an issue in football, and this tournament is about local organisations saying that we don’t tolerate racism in football, or in our communities in Shropshire. The ‘Kick it Out Cup’ is open to organisations and football teams in Shropshire that want to Kick Racism Out of Football and our communities.”

Councillor Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for flourishing Shropshire communities, said:

“This is an excellent event and mirrors our core policy that we will not accept any hate crime in Shropshire. Racism in sport is on the national and international field but we in Shropshire will not tolerate it so ‘kick it out’.”

The tournament is from 6pm to 9pm on Thursday 1 November at the Shrewsbury Sports Village. If you are interested in entering a team, please contact Steve Cunningham on 01743 252361 or email steve.cunningham@shropshire.gov.uk
