Invite to join Gusto as nation celebrates Older People’s Day
People are urged to find out more about a Shropshire project which celebrates the sharing of skills and experience, as the nation marks Older People’s Day.
The national day today (Monday 1 October 2012) highlights how different generations have a lot to offer each other, and members of Gusto are taking the opportunity to remind people of all ages that that they can join the group to share interests, support each other and make new friends.
Gusto is a friendly group of mostly retired adults who come together with others to do more of the activities they love and try new things. Regular get-togethers are held to provide the chance for people who have joined Gusto to catch up, get involved in activities, and for anyone interested in joining or hosting activities to learn more.
Shropshire Council was awarded almost £100,000 from the Design Council and the Technology Strategy Board to run the project as part of the national Keeping Connected Business Challenge, which aims to develop innovative ideas to increase older people’s independence, confidence and links to others who can offer support.
Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for community engagement, said:
“Older People’s Day celebrates the sharing of skills and experience and provides us with an opportunity to signpost people to Gusto which does just that.
“Whether you are recently retired, have moved into the area and want to meet new people, feel a little alone and would appreciate being part of a network of like-minded people, or would just like to find out more, please get in touch by calling Gusto on 07511 139932.”
