Community group helps press council grant into action

People living in south Shropshire are being encouraged to make use of their autumn crop of apples, when an Apple Pressing Day takes place at Rushbury on Saturday 27 October 2012, thanks to the support of the StrettonDale Local Joint Committee (LJC).

The Rushbury Community Apple Juicing group has been established to help people produce juice from their annual crop.  Many people have trees on their land or gardens, but don’t have the ability to turn the apples into juice, so a community group was established this year, and have raised funds to buy the equipment needed to process the fruit.  The event takes place between 10am and 4.30pm on 27 October at Rushbury Village Hall.

Cecilia Motley, the local Shropshire Councillor for Corvedale, said:

“We were really pleased to be able to help support this project with LJC funding.  Not only will the apple pressing day help make use of this year’s apple crop, it is also a great way for the community to come together and celebrate their agricultural heritage and learn more about the natural environment.  We hope the event is a great success and the first of many apple days in Rushbury.”

The Rushbury Community Apple Juice group were awarded a grant of £1,500 by the Strettondale LJC in June 2012.
