‘Park Shop Save’ in Church Stretton

People visiting Church Stretton will be able to park, shop and save as part of a new pilot initiative to help boost the local economy.

Shropshire Council has been working closely with Church Stretton Town Council over the last few months to develop this scheme, which involves double tickets being issued from the pay and display machines in Easthope Road Car Park, off Lion Meadow.

Church Stretton Town Council have worked with local traders on the scheme which allows shoppers, on production of the tear-off section of the ticket, to reclaim 50p when they spend £10 or more at participating local stores.  These stores will be identified by the ‘Park Shop Save’ stickers in their windows.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for parking, said:

“This is an excellent scheme which will hopefully encourage more people to visit and spend their money in this vibrant market town.”

Councillor Tom Beaumont, Mayor of Church Stretton, said:

“We are very excited about this new pilot scheme; 18 local shops have already signed up to participate and it is hoped this initiative will help to boost the local economy.”

David Evans, a Shropshire Councillor for Church Stretton and Craven Arms, said:

“I welcome this new arrangement that the town is piloting and hope to see the scheme taken up in other market towns throughout Shropshire.” 

Lee Chapman, also a Shropshire Councillor for Church Stretton and Craven Arms, said:

“It’s encouraging to see the new mayor Tom Beaumont taking the initiative to work closely with all the traders and Shropshire Council to help support the economy of the town.”

If successful, this scheme could be rolled out to other towns in the future.
