New youth provision to be revealed at Oswestry meeting

Members of the public will get a sneak preview of the new MyPlace building at the Oswestry Local Joint Committee (LJC) meeting on Thursday 27 September 2012, even though the meeting will be held at Woodside School, starting at 7pm.

The £1 million new provision for young people in the town and area has been handed over to Shropshire Council, and is in the final stages of being fitted out before the young people and a number of support organisations can start to use the building and its facilities, which includes a fully-fitted recording studio.

It had been hoped that the LJC meeting could have been held in the large hall central to the building, but the early date for the meeting made this impossible.  Instead, some of the young people who have had a hand in designing the building have been invited to make a presentation about the building and how it will be used.

Also on the agenda is the local policing team who will also be on hand to update the public on local policing and crime levels in the area, as well as answering any questions that residents may have about community safety concerns.

The meeting will also see the launch of a short DVD produced by Shropshire Council about the new company ip&e group, which is being set up in the search to find new and improved ways to provide council services.

The meeting will also hear the latest batch of applications for funding from the money set aside by Shropshire Council for community building.

Chair of the LJC, Councillor Martin Bennett, said:

“It should be an interesting meeting with a number of different subjects being considered. I would urge everyone to come along and hear for themselves what is being done in Oswestry, and have a say about it.”
