Shropshire residents are being reminded to make sure they are registered to vote in the first ever Police and Crime Commissioner elections.

The election, taking place on 15 November 2012, is for the whole of the West Mercia area with Shropshire Council being the lead authority.

Police and Crime Commissioners will be elected by the public to hold chief constables and the police force to account – essentially making the police accountable to the people they serve.

In order to have your say, you must be registered to vote.

Registering to vote only takes a few minutes: you can complete the form that has recently been sent to you, if you haven’t already done so, print off a form from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk, the website of the independent elections watchdog, the Electoral Commission, or telephone Shropshire Council on 0345 678 9000.
