A treasure hunt, parachute games and barefoot walk are among the activities on offer at a Get Active Day in Shrewsbury.

Families are invited to the event hosted by Shropshire Council’s Sure Start children’s centre services at The LinC at Grange Primary School, Bainbridge Green, York Road, on Tuesday 14 August 2012.

Healthy snacks and cold drinks will be available during the session.

The event, taking place from 11am to 2pm, will also provide the opportunity to find out more about children’s centre services which offer support for families with young children. The team who work in the local area will be on hand to answer questions about the services that children’s centres provide across Shrewsbury and in the surrounding areas.

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for health and well-being, said:

“Our children’s centres teams are hosting a great range of activities and events for families with young children across the county this summer.

“Children’s centres play an important role in improving health and well-being and, through events like this, are supporting families to be active.

“I would encourage people to come along to The LinC at Grange Primary School on Tuesday to enjoy the activities and take the opportunity to chat to the team about what children’s centres can offer all year round.”

Vernon Bushell, local Shropshire Councillor for Harlescott, added:

“I hope that families with young children in our area will take advantage of the event being hosted by Shropshire Council’s Sure Start children’s centre services on Tuesday.

“This is also an opportunity find out about the many other services children’s centres provide.”
