Get active at Market Drayton Olympics inspired event

Related topics: Community

Families are invited to get active at an Olympics inspired event hosted by Shropshire Council Sure Start children’s centre services in Market Drayton.

A range of fun activities will be on offer at the free Get Active session at Buntingsdale Road Park, from 11am to 2pm, on Wednesday 8 August 2012.

Activities, which support children’s learning and development, include mini Olympics events, Olympic themed crafts and music movement and story-time.

Bob the Shropshire Play Bus will also be at the event which supports the NHS ‘Change4Life’ programme, and families are encouraged to bring along a picnic.

The session will also provide the opportunity to find out more about children’s centre services which offer support for families with young children. The team who work in the local area will be on hand to answer questions about the services that children’s centres provide across Market Drayton and in the surrounding areas.

Councillor Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council Cabinet member for health and well-being said:

“This event will bring our own mini Olympics to Market Drayton and is one of a fantastic range of activities provided by children’s centres for families with young children.

“Children’s centres play an important role in improving health and well-being and, through events like this, are supporting families to be active.

“I would encourage people to come along to Buntingsdale Road Park on 8 August to enjoy the activities and take the opportunity to chat to the team about what children’s centres can offer.”

Other activities in the Market Drayton area include Stay and Play groups at the children’s centre at Longlands Primary School which take place on Mondays from 1pm to 3pm and Fridays from 9.30am to 11.30am. A Stay and Play group is also held on Wednesdays from 1pm to 3pm and one Saturday each month at the children’s centre at Market Drayton Infant and Nursery School in Longslow Road.
