Work on Sundorne Road in Shrewsbury

Work to improve Sundorne Road in Shrewsbury and create a new entrance to the medical centre will start on Monday 23 July 2012 and will take approximately eight weeks to complete. 

As well as this new entrance, to be installed opposite Meadow Farm Drive, other improvements to Sundorne Road will include a mini roundabout, a puffin crossing and new kerbs and road surfacing. 

To limit any future disruption, the council’s highways contractor Ringway will also take the opportunity to carry out repairs to the pavements and roads near the site. 

Whilst the work is being carried out, traffic lights will be in place on Sundorne Road when necessary. 

However, for safety reasons a full road closure will be needed between 9.30am and 4.30pm on Saturday 18 August and Sunday 19 August 2012 so that the road can be resurfaced.  A signed diversion route will be in place for these two days. 

Businesses on Sundorne Road will remain open at all times, but during the weekend of the road closure access may be required via the signed diversion route. 

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for highways, said:

“We would like to apologise in advance for any disruption this work may cause.  As always, we will endeavour to complete this work as quickly as possible with minimum disruption to road users and nearby properties.” 

Karen Burgoyne, local Shropshire Councillor for Sundorne, said:

“Sundorne and Battlefield residents have already been made aware of the disruptions to come via the joint councillors’ newsletter.  I very much hope that they’ll find that the additional improvements to be made to that section of Sundorne Road will be worth the inconvenience for a couple of months.”

The work will be undertaken on behalf of Shropshire Council by its term contractor Ringway, and monitored by their engineering consultants Mouchel.
