Don’t lose your vote!
Annual Canvass Forms are now starting to drop through letterboxes across Shropshire, and you are being urged to deal with yours as soon as possible.
The elections team will be sending forms to households in Shropshire Council’s area over the coming months.
The responses will enable the council to compile the new Electoral Register, which will be published on 16 October 2012. This is much earlier than usual due to the Police and Crime Commissioner elections scheduled to take place later this year.
Registering to vote is really simple. If there are any changes to the pre-printed details on your form, all you have to do is update it with the details of everyone in your household who is eligible to vote, and then return it as soon as possible.
If there are no changes to make, you can either post your form back to the council, or use a dedicated Internet or telephone service to confirm your household’s registration.
Electors must decide whether or not to have their details excluded from the Edited Register. This means that your details cannot be bought by individuals or commercial organisations.
There are still some people that do not realise that they have to register every year, but if you don’t register, you may lose your chance to vote in the first ever Police and Crime Commissioner elections. These are national elections, which are scheduled for 15 November 2012.
