Shropshire See and Hear Exhibition 2012
The See and Hear Exhibition 2012 is taking place today (Wednesday 16 May 2012), organised by the See and Hear Partnership, which includes Shropshire Council, Shropshire Voluntary Association for the Blind, Shropshire Rural Community Council, and the Guide Dogs Association.
Information and advice for people with either or both hearing and sight loss, their family, friends and carers, is available at the free event.
The exhibition was first held in Shropshire in 2008 and was the first of its kind in the country to focus on both sensory impairments.
This year’s event, showcasing a wide range of equipment and services which assist people with sight and hearing loss, is taking place from 10am to 4pm at Shrewsbury Sports Village, Sundorne Road, Shrewsbury.
It also features more than 55 exhibitors, The Bionic Ear Show, an interactive presentation on how the ear works, at 10.30am, 11.45am, 1pm and 2.15pm, and free hearing screening.
Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for health and well-being, said:
“The exhibition has grown rapidly in size and popularity each year since it was first held in the county in 2008.
“We hope to build on past experience and improve still further to bring all the very latest technology and advice to our visitors.”
British Sign Language and Deafblind interpreters will be available at the event, as well as volunteer guides to assist visitors.
