Acton Scott Historic Working Farm is celebrating the Diamond Jubilee with a mini-festival this weekend from Saturday 2 to Tuesday 5 June 2012.

The festival themed around horses, will focus on the museums three majestic shire horses Tory, Charlie and Joe who will be on show and working throughout the four days, alongside the farm’s resident donkey Dusty.

On Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 a Welsh Cob and Clydesdale will join the roster and Ginny, the Shetland pony visiting from Oak Farm at Ditton Priors, one of the council’s day services for adults with learning difficulties, will also be at the farm.

Other activities over the four days include:

  • An extensive exhibition of miniatures of the farms collection of horse-drawn vehicles by The Guild of Model Wheelwrights.
  • The farm’s own wheelwright will undertake a wheel tying at 12 noon each day, a spectacle involving considerable skill and lots of fire, smoke and steam.
  • Workshops by Local artist Eva Dutton – for all ages on how to draw horses. Copies of Eva’s new book, “How to Draw Horses in Simple Steps”, will be available in the farm’s shop.

For younger visitors, there is the chance to colour in special horse cut-outs to add to the array of horse-shaped bunting that will decorate a number of areas of the farm. There will also be themed trails and quizzes to try and, of course, all the farm’s animals to see.

After paying the first day entry fee, visitors can take advantage of free admission as many times as they like during Jubilee festival.
