Shropshire residents will be able to celebrate Shrewsbury Town’s promotion to League One as the players are given an open-top bus parade through the streets of the county town on Sunday 6 May 2012.

The players will leave the Greenhous Meadow at 12.30pm for a tour of the town centre before arriving at the Frankwell Riverside car park in front of The Guildhall in Frankwell for a celebration with fans at 1pm.  Players and staff from the club will then attend a civic reception at Shirehall hosted by Shropshire Council and the Mayor of Shrewsbury.

Leader of Shropshire Council, Keith Barrow, said:

“The players and staff at Shrewsbury Town deserve a huge amount of credit for this success, which is a wonderful boost for Shrewsbury and Shropshire in general, so it’s only right that we recognise that achievement.  This isn’t about the council, it’s about celebrating the football club and giving thousands of fans their day of glory as well, so I hope lots of people come out on Sunday to join in the celebrations.”

Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Tony Durnell said:

“I hope as many people as possible turn out to celebrate STFC’s success; we should all be really proud of what they have achieved and the parade gives everyone a chance to feel part of ‘Team Shrewsbury’.”

Shrewsbury Town FC manager, Graham Turner, said:

“It is a great gesture from Shropshire Council and Shrewsbury Town Council to host this civic reception and parade for the club.  To be able to go around Shrewsbury and celebrate our wonderful achievement with all our supporters will be a fitting end to a successful season.

“I hope many Shrewsbury Town supporters will come out to see the players, coaches and myself and make this another historic and enjoyable day in the club’s history.”
