Residents, visitors and tourists can now enjoy a cleaner Church Street in Church Stretton, following a successful deep clean carried out by Shropshire Council’s streetscene team on the morning of Wednesday 18 April 2012.

Church Street was placed on the deep clean schedule because of the large amounts of parked cars along the street, therefore making scheduled roadsweeping along the street impossible.

Prior to the deep clean, posters and flyers were distributed along the street to inform residents that in order to undertake programmed works, all vehicles parked on Church Street would be required to move for up to two hours.

On the morning of the clean just one vehicle was parked along the street, making the operation run smoothly and effectively.  The clean started at 7.30am and finished around 9am.  A total of 1.82 tonnes of weeds, mud and leaves were collected as well as litter.

Whilst undertaking the deep clean residents came out and congratulated the team for their work.

Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member, said:

Shropshire Council’s streetscene has once again completed a successful deep clean with minimal disruption to the local area and residents.  The nature of these projects means they take a lot of organisation and planning to make sure they run smoothly and benefit the whole community.

David Evans, a local Shropshire Councillor for Church Stretton and Craven Arms, said:

“I would like to thank Alan Meyrick and his team for the excellent job that was carried out in Church Street, Church Stretton.  When streets get a deep clean it shows that Shropshire Council do care and it gives the street a facelift.  Let’s hope this level of service will continue and that we can see other streets getting the same treatment.  Keep up the good work.”
