Local residents, families and visitors will be able to get a glimpse of what’s in store at this year’s Shrewsbury International Cartoon Festival this week as local shops and businesses exhibit a host of cartoon art throughout the town.

The Smile High Trail runs until 30 April 2012 and will be promoting fantastic artwork from the numerous cartoonists around the town centre shops and cafes in the run up to the annual festival.

A map is available showing where the cartoons, based on the festival’s 2012 theme of ‘flight’, can be spotted.  The trail map can be downloaded from the festival’s website, and is also available in print from Shrewsbury Visitor Information Centre at Shrewsbury Museum, Barker Street.

Children can also take part in the free Smile High Trail quiz around the town.

Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for tourism and culture, said:

“This is a great opportunity for residents, families and visitors to get a taster of this fantastic festival and to explore and enjoy the town more widely.  I encourage everyone to take part and discover what delights this international festival and Shrewsbury have to offer.”

Cartoonists Live, the main activity weekend of Shrewsbury International Cartoon Festival, is in the town Thursday 19 April 2012 to Saturday 21 April 2012.

More information on the International Cartoon Festival, events, and Smile High Trail and map, can be found on the festival’s website at www.shrewsburycartoonfestival.com.

The Smile High Trail was devised by Bill McCabe of Agate Design and is supported by Arts Council West Midlands, Wace Morgan, The Parade, Appleyards and participating businesses.
