Silver surfers are urged to take part in Spring Online at Shrewsbury Library
As part of Digital Unite’s award-winning campaign, Spring Online, budding silver surfers are being urged to sign up for one of their 30-minute taster sessions being held on Thursday 26 April 2012 at Shrewsbury Library.
This national campaign gives older people an insight into computers and the Internet, and staff from the library alongside tutors from Age UK will be available to encourage you to take those first steps to using computers.
Last year Spring Online helped an incredible 50,000 older people get online at 2,500 events around the country. Silver Surfers Day was started in 2002 with the aim of introducing older people to the world of technology at a local level by encouraging and supporting outlets such as libraries to open their doors and hold taster sessions.
Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for adult training, said:
“Shropshire Council is very happy to be a part of a national scheme such as Spring Online by hosting the taster sessions in our library in Shrewsbury. It’s a key opportunity to engage older people and encourage them to attend one of the free sessions for a chance to get to grips with computers and the Internet, which has now become an integral part of our everyday life.”
You can book your place on a 30-minute taster session at Shrewsbury Library on Thursday 26 April 2012 between 10am and 12pm by ringing 01743 255308 or by calling into the library.
