Myddle C of E Primary School makes a rapid response to Ofsted report
Staff and governors at a Shropshire primary school are working closely with the council to address the outcomes following a recent report from an Ofsted inspector.
The Ofsted inspector, who visited Myddle C of E Primary School, has reported that whilst the school has a number of strengths, it currently requires a notice to improve. This is to ensure that the measures put in place by the headteacher, who has been at the school for just over a year, and by the governors continue to have a good impact on raising standards.
The school is working very closely with advisers from the council to ensure that the measures implemented to bring about the necessary improvements are doing so at a good pace. An Ofsted inspector will return at regular intervals to monitor the progress the school is making in addressing its development priorities.
As well as identifying key areas for improvement, the inspector acknowledged many strengths within the school. The inspector reported that pupils enjoy coming to school and have very positive attitudes to learning. Pupils’ social development is good, pupils feel extremely safe in school and their behaviour is good. The inspector commented upon the good teaching evident in some lessons, although the quality of teaching overall was judged to be satisfactory or better. Pupils’ achievement over time was judged satisfactory, but the inspector recognised that current pupils are making satisfactory or better progress and levels of attainment have improved.
According to the report, the school’s effectiveness is not yet satisfactory because there have not been sufficient improvements since the last inspection. The inspector reported that there are weaknesses in the way teachers use assessment, and that this has not been monitored rigorously enough to improve the overall quality of teaching. The report acknowledges that some improvement has been made in recent terms.
The Chair of Governors said:
‘The governors of Myddle Church of England Primary School are pleased that their recent Ofsted report recognises the strengths of the school with regard to pupil behaviour and well-being. The governors are aware of the development needs raised and will continue to address these through the school development plan, which the report recognises is already having a positive impact.”
Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for schools, added:
“It is good to know that the report highlighted the positive aspects about the school, but it is clear that there are issues that need to be addressed. The headteacher, staff and governors have already begun work with the support of advisers from the council to address these priorities. We are confident in the leadership within the school and are all committed to making the necessary improvements to ensure the best possible provision for all pupils of Myddle Primary School.”
The school has today sent home a copy of the Ofsted report to all parents.
