Swimming pool in Market Drayton to close for essential repairs

The swimming pool at Market Drayton Swimming Centre will be closed from Monday 12 March 2012 for around two weeks so that essential repairs can be carried out to stop it from leaking.

The work will involve emptying the pool and replacing a valve on the bottom of it.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for active and healthy lifestyles, said:

“This has been an ongoing problem which has been carefully managed.  However, the amount of water leaking from the pool has recently increased.

“Unfortunately, due to the location of the valve we cannot fix it without emptying the pool.

“To limit any disruption we’ve chosen a time when the pool is less busy, and we’ll endeavour to complete the repair work as soon as possible.”

The teaching pool at the centre will remain open.
