School celebrates positive Ofsted report
Staff, governors and pupils at Dorrington CE Primary School are celebrating an extremely positive report by Ofsted inspectors.
The school, near Shrewsbury, was visited by inspectors in February 2012, who gave the school an overall rating of ‘good’.
Inspectors were impressed with the good teaching throughout the school, and said pupils behaved well and felt safe. Parents and carers interviewed as part of the inspection said they were very happy with the standards of teaching and care provided.
A key quote from the report said parents had reported that the headteacher “has transformed the school, the school has reasserted itself as a key feature in our community. The staff have a renewed respect from parents, carers and community members… The children are blossoming in a fun, safe and interesting learning environment”.
The report also highlighted the opportunity to give pupils greater responsibility for their learning in future, by evaluating their own work and taking more ownership of tasks around the school.
Chair of Governors, Rev Michael Gillions, was delighted with the report. He said:
“We are very proud of our school. Dorrington C of E Primary is a good school and this inspection, conducted under the new and tougher Ofsted regime, confirms what we and the local community already knew. We congratulate our fantastic headteacher, our talented staff and our brilliant pupils.”
Councillor Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for education and skills, added:
“I am delighted at this very positive report for Dorrington Primary, and warmly congratulate the headteacher, staff, governors, parents and children on such a good result.”
