The team responsible for ensuring Shropshire Council’s car parks and on-street parking spaces are safe and well-run for drivers has been honoured at a national awards ceremony.

Shropshire Parking Service was highly commended in the Parking Team of the Year category and won the Enforcement Award at the British Parking Awards, which recognise excellence in the parking industry.  The team was also shortlisted in the Parking in the Community category.

In announcing Shropshire as the winner in the Enforcement Award, judges highlighted the team’s engagement with the local community and consistent application of good practice to enforce parking regulations and help keep traffic moving smoothly.

Judges were also impressed with the positive impact that Shropshire’s enforcement officers have on communities by listening and engaging with people, which is a partnership that has grown and been built up over a period of time.

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for car parks, said:

“This is great news and testament to the hard work our parking enforcement team puts in on a day-to-day basis.  They may not always get the credit they deserve, but our officers do far more than just make sure people are parking in the right place.

“Amongst other things, they help people with directions and look out for any anti-social behaviour – in short, they are the eyes and ears of the council in the community and I am absolutely delighted the judges have recognised their fantastic commitment to the job.”

Councillor Steve Charmley, Cabinet member responsible for parking enforcement, added:

“I’m proud that our parking service has done so well at these awards, which just goes to show that we are working to exceptionally high standards here in Shropshire.  Congratulations to all concerned.”
