My Friends Online week in Shropshire

Related topics: Community

My Friends Online week takes place Monday 19 March 2012 – Sunday 25 March 2012, to help people in later life discover the social side of the Internet.  There will be opportunities for those new to computers to send emails, as well as have a go at using sites like Facebook and twitter.

There will be sessions at Clee Hill, Knockin, Quatt and many more.  Computers are available for learners to use, or they can bring their own if they have a laptop.  The maximum charge per session is £4.

Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for the voluntary and community sector, said:-

“The Internet is a great way to keep in touch with friends or family.  We hope that older people will take the opportunity to find out how easy it can be.”

Learners can go at a pace to suit them and there will be lots of support available from friendly volunteers within the local community.  Those with some experience, looking to increase their skills are also welcome.
