Morda mark making
Parents and carers will be able to seek advice at sessions in Morda run by Shropshire Council’s Sure Start children’s centre services, Morda Pre-School and Morda Primary School on supporting children up to five years old to develop their writing skills.
Sessions will take place at the children’s centre at Morda, Morda Pre-School and Morda Primary School on Monday 12 March 2012. Parents and carers can drop in to any of the three settings, which are based on the same site, where activities are taking place between 9am and 11.30am. These will be practical sessions and parents can get involved and put any queries to staff on supporting children to develop writing skills.
There will then be a session in the school hall at Morda Primary School on Wednesday 28 March 2012 for parents, carers and children, from 2pm to 3.30pm. Photographs of the sessions on 12 March 2012 will be on display. Parents, carers and children will be able to see a range of activities, and staff will be available to offer support and guidance, as well as answer any questions.
People can attend on either or both days, and there is no need to book in advance.
Councillor Ann Hartley, Cabinet member for health and well-being, said:
“These sessions provide a great opportunity for parents and carers who would like to find out how they can get more involved in their child’s learning and support them in developing writing skills.
“This is another example of how our children’s centres are working in partnership to support local families and ensure the services offer support to as many people as possible.”
Joyce Barrow, Shropshire councillor for St Oswald, said:
“I welcome the advice sessions being run in Morda. I would encourage as many parents and carers as possible to come along and get involved. Writing is one of the most important skills for learning and starting early gives children a head start for their school lives.”
Children’s centres offer services and support for families with children under five years old across the county, including early years services, child and family health services and support for parents and children with additional needs.
