Flood information exhibition in Shifnal a great success

Related topics: Community

Around 150 people came to a very successful exhibition at Shifnal Village Hall on Tuesday 31 January 2012 to gather information and seek advice on flooding and insurance matters.  The public were able to listen and then ask questions on subjects, including rights and responsibilities, and what can be done to reduce the risk of flooding in their community.

Presentations from Shropshire Council, the Environment Agency, Mary Dhonau OBE and Much Wenlock Flood Action Group gave interesting information and important facts on the various issues of interest to those who attended.

Councillor Mal Price, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for flooding, said:

“Shropshire Council is happy to have been involved in this event in Shifnal, and the number of members of the public that attended showed it is an important issue in the area. It is vital that homeowners and local residents have the chance to question the experts over their flooding concerns and listen to them talk about the issues that matter to them.”

Stuart West, local Shropshire Councillor for Shifnal South and Cosford, said:-

“I thank residents for their high attendance and their interest in the emergency resilience group I propose to set up.  I feel most residents embraced the messages the exhibition conveyed, and the result was more understanding of flooding issues in Shifnal.”

The event also had officers from Severn Trent Water and the Royal Life Saving Society UK on hand to answer queries, and it also included a showing of a recent video interview between Mary Dhonau OBE and the Association of British Insurers.

People were also able to apply for a free property flood survey, and find out about the measures that they could take to be better prepared for flooding.
