Work to refurbish Ludlow Assembly Rooms has started in earnest, after the project was awarded £70,000 under Shropshire Council’s Market Towns Revitalisation Programme.

This is being match funded by local fundraising and a grant from Shropshire Screen, a scheme which brings the latest film technology to rural communities.

The money will be spent on painting, new carpets, toilets, furniture, as well as a new digital projector which has recently been installed enabling films to be screened in digital.

Staff, board members and volunteers got together before Christmas (Friday 16 December 2011) to celebrate the start of the refurbishment.  Work will continue throughout 2012 to give the Assembly Rooms a great new look.

Rosanna Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow North, and Martin Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow South, said:

“I encourage everyone to come and enjoy the newly-installed digital projector and see the interior improvements being made to Ludlow Assembly Rooms.”

Councillor John Hurst-Knight, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member, said:

“Ludlow Assembly Rooms is an important community facility which is much-loved by local residents.  Therefore, it’s vital that these improvements are being made to update it, securing its future within the town.”
