Free training in Shrewsbury for dance artists
Shropshire Council, in partnership with Youth Dance England, is offering free training for dance artists, practitioners or childminders looking to develop their skills and experience in delivering dance for children aged 0 to 5.
The free training session will take place on Wednesday 25 January 2012 at the Dance Studio in Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury from 1pm until 3.30pm.
It will be delivered by Liz Clark, an independent professional dance artist with over 15 years experience of dancing in early years settings, including leading and delivering dance activities within children’s centres, performing and delivering dance training.
The programme will be both theory and practical. During the training participants will:
- Learn about the principles of child-led creative movement
- Gain skills and confidence in how to lead creative movement
- Discover how creative movement can be used in an early years setting and how it links to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
- Explore how using easily-sourced props can enrich their activity
- Learn how reflective practice can aid them in planning dance activities
- Plan their first movement session so they are ready to start delivering after the training
Councillor Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for active and healthy lifestyles, said:
“This free training programme will give participants working in any dance style the chance to develop their skills and experience in delivering dance in early year’s settings, enabling children to keep fit and have fun at the same time.”
Anne Chebsey, Shropshire Councillor for Porthill, said:
“This is a great opportunity for those involved in childcare to expand their training especially in this area. All children love music and movement, and training in this way will help to channel ideas and increase the fun and experience for the little ones.”
Following the training there will be opportunities for some participants to be involved in an early years dance project being delivered by Shropshire Council.
Places at the training are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. To book a place or for more information, people should call Alexa Pugh, community arts officer on 01743 255938 or email: alexa.pugh@shropshire.gov.uk.
