The Quarry Swimming and Fitness Centre in Shrewsbury has recently been shortlisted as a finalist for a prestigious national award.

The centre was shortlisted, from 228 sites nationally, to compete against five other finalists for the title of ‘best and most improved performer’, an Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) award.

Councillor Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for active and healthy lifestyles, said:

“This is an incredible achievement.  It is recognition of the hard work that has been done in the last 12 months to improve service provision by the staff in the most trying times. Unfortunately, we did not win the award.  However, getting the nomination for a national award is an amazing achievement in itself and one which all of the staff can be extremely proud of.”

Andrew Bannerman, Shropshire Councillor for Quarry and Coton Hill, said:

“This is a great tribute to the staff at The Quarry Swimming and Fitness Centre.  We are lucky to have such dedicated staff and a facility which is appreciated by many people.”
