Children and young people in and around Craven Arms, Whitchurch and Shrewsbury will have the opportunity to tell Santa their last minute Christmas wishes as Grotto Games comes to town.

Following the successes of the previous Grotto Games, Shropshire Council is repeating the event this year (December 2011).

The events will be held from 11am until 1pm at Craven Arms Community Centre on Monday 19 December 2011, Whitchurch Leisure Centre on Tuesday 20 December and London Road Sports Centre in Shrewsbury on Wednesday 21 December.

A variety of games, crafts and fun activities will be on offer for children aged 12 and under.  There will also be an opportunity for each child to visit Santa in his grotto for a special pre-Christmas gift.

Councillor Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for active and healthy lifestyles, said:

“Grotto Games has proved a popular and successful event over the last three years.  This year it is the turn of Craven Arms, Whitchurch and Shrewsbury residents to join in the festive fun.  Grotto Games gives a flavour of the kind of activities offered year round by our leisure service, with the aim of involving children and young people in healthy physical activity and play.  The festive twist gives it that fun, magical element to entice children and their families to find out what is on offer.”

Entry to the event is charged at £4 per child, with accompanying adults going free.  Tickets must be pre-booked by Wednesday 14 December 2011 and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
