Don’t forget – waste collection day changes

Shropshire Council and its contractor Veolia Environmental Services Ltd are reminding residents about important changes to their waste collection dates during the festive period.

During this time, the day on which waste is collected from households will change because of the Bank Holidays.

Generally the changes mean that people’s waste will be collected one day later than usual.  However, if a collection falls on Boxing Day, it will actually take place earlier than usual – on Christmas Eve.

Councillor Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for waste and recycling, said:

“You can double check your collection dates by using our online collection day finder shropshire.gov.uk/binday.  Please make sure you have your bins, boxes and sacks out by 7am on the right dates.”

Donald Macphail, managing director of Veolia in Shropshire, added:

“If in doubt, all of these day changes are highlighted on your calendar.  Also look out for a reminder which will be placed under bin lids soon, if those with bins haven’t already received one.”

Collections will return back to the ‘normal’ days by Monday 9 January 2012.

The council’s Household Recycling Centres are open most days from 9am to 5pm, but as normal over this period they will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
