Could you help people in your area with transport?

Shropshire Council is looking for volunteer drivers to help provide a vital service to local people.

The community car scheme and voluntary car scheme have been managed by the council’s passenger transport services for a number of years, providing an essential service for children and adults across Shropshire.

The community car scheme is one of the most flexible forms of community transport and makes a significant contribution to the movement of adults in Shropshire.

The voluntary car scheme provides transport for children and adults with special needs, including individuals with learning difficulties, physical difficulties or behavioural problems.

Both schemes are entirely reliant on local car owners who give up their time freely, and are dedicated to providing a safe, reliable and effective service for children and adults across Shropshire.

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for transport, said:

“Both of these schemes are highly valued and provide a lifeline to people who are unable to get out and about.

“Our volunteers provide a stable and caring service, often building excellent relationships with the passengers and their families.  Please get in touch with us if you would like to get involved for an opportunity to meet new people and support your local community.”

If you have any questions or queries about our schemes, or would like to discuss the possibility of becoming a volunteer driver for such valued services, then please contact Katie Willocks on 01743 255613.
