Remembrance Day commemoration at Shropshire Council
Council staff and councillors will gather in the centre quadrangle at Shirehall, Shrewsbury, at 11am on Friday 11 November 2011 to remember those who lost their lives in the service of their country.
In particular they will be commemorating local government staff who died during the two world wars. Councillor David Lloyd MBE, the vice chairman of the council, will lay a wreath on the memorial stones which commemorate them.
The Last Post will be played by a bugler from the Royal Irish Regiment. After the two minutes’ silence, prayers of remembrance will be led by the Reverend Mark Thomas, the Vicar of St Chad’s Church in Shrewsbury. The Act of Homage will be read by the council’s vice chairman.
All councillors and staff will be invited to attend the service, or to observe two minutes’ silence at their workplace.
The vice chairman will also be joined by a number of special guests including, the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, Colonel Edmund Thewles OBE DL, Honorary Alderman of the county, and representatives from the Armed Forces and the Royal British Legion.
