Future housing on the agenda for Craven Arms LJC

Related topics: Democracy

The Craven Arms and Rural Local Joint Committee (LJC) will be discussing local hot topics of housing, planning and sustainability in the area on Wednesday 16 November at 7pm at Wistanstow Village Hall.

Officers from Shropshire Council planning policy and sustainability teams will be present to give an overview of the current policies and developments, plus South Shropshire Housing Association will also be on hand to give an update on their affordable housing developments in the area.

Representatives from the police will be in attendance from 6.30pm for local people to raise any community safety concerns.

Chairman of the committee, Shropshire Councillor David Evans, said:

These topics are very important at the moment for a number of parishes and individuals in our area; we want to encourage anyone with an interest to come along and join in.  We want to have constructive local discussions and debate on these key issues.”

At the meeting in July 2011, the committee granted financial assistance to the following projects, totalling £11,703.80.

  • Craven Arms Community Food (£2,530.80) storage shed for farmers market equipment
  • Onibury Village Hall (£2,500) replacement kitchen
  • South Shropshire Youth Forum (£3,453) cricket project and community green team
  • South Shropshire Engineering Ambassadors (£450) materials for out of school club
  • Corvedale Entertainment Society (£770) training, equipment and marketing to expand and develop arts in the Corvedale area
  • Lambeth Friendship Centre (£2,000) – replacement kitchen.

There are a further five applications for consideration at this meeting requesting a total of £8,634.00.  The deadline for the last funding round of the financial year is 6 February 2012.
