At their meeting yesterday (Wednesday 16 November 2011) Shropshire Council’s Cabinet approved the recommendation to select Ringway as preferred bidder to maintain the roads and deliver street scene services across the county.

This new six-year contract will start on 1 April 2012.  There is also an option to extend this contract for a further four years, subject to the contractor’s high performance.

Yesterday’s decision may be called in by the council’s scrutiny panel; therefore it will not be formally confirmed until Thursday 24 November 2011.

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member, said:

“The tender assessment has been thorough and the contract has been awarded to the company which submitted the best bid both in terms of price and quality.  It will provide excellent value for money for Shropshire residents.”

The contract will cover all aspects of highways maintenance, highways improvement, gully emptying, grass cutting, bridge repair and maintenance, streetlighting maintenance and street scene.
