Joint effort leaves Alveley looking spotless

A total of 14 sacks of rubbish and 4,200kg of dirt and leaves were collected during a community litter pick in Alveley. 

The litter pick in the village on Wednesday 12 October 2011 was organised by Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance team as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign, and was carried out in addition to the routine street cleaning schedule. 

The litter pick focused on Peacock Hill, Arden Way, Church Road, Chapel Road, Centre Place, Daddlebrook Road, Cooks Cross, Romsley View, Honeybourne Road, Bridge Road and some footpaths within Alveley. 

Members of the environmental maintenance team were joined by volunteers from Veolia Environmental Services and Tina Woodward, Shropshire councillor for Alveley and Claverley. 

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council deputy Cabinet member, said:

“I would like to thank everyone who took part.  This was a fantastic joint effort which left the village looking at its best.”

Councillor Woodward said:

“I would like to say thank you to the environmental maintenance team and the volunteers from Veolia who did a fine job of tidying the village, building on the recent successful litter pick by the schoolpupils and volunteers from the local community.”  

The Big Tidy Up campaign is a national initiative encouraging residents, voluntary groups and organisations to carry out litter picks in their area.
