Pont Duncan repairs to start

Related topics: Community

Work to repair Pont Duncan, which carries Croeswylan Lane over the Morda Brook in Morda, is due to start on Tuesday 30 August 2011 and is expected to last for up to four weeks.

The work will involve underpinning and protecting the bridge’s supporting walls which have been damaged by flood water.

Unfortunately, because of the narrow nature of the bridge, it will be necessary to close it to traffic to carry out the work safely.  The bridge will therefore be closed to traffic for up to four weeks starting on 30 August 2011.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.

When the bridge is closed, traffic will be diverted via the B5069 road and Trefonen Road.

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport, said:

“We appreciate that this work may cause some inconvenience and every reasonable effort will be made to complete it as soon as possible.”

Joyce Barrow, Shropshire councillor for St Oswald said:

“Clearly the work needs to be done, and hopefully it will not inconvenience anyone for the few weeks it will take to underpin the bridge.”
