Make a difference in your area – Church Stretton’s community litter pick
Shropshire Council is encouraging residents, local businesses and voluntary groups to make a difference in their area by getting involved in a community litter pick in Church Stretton on Wednesday 15 June 2011.
The council’s environmental maintenance team, who has organised the litter pick as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign, will be out and about n Church Stretton between 10am and midday. As well as their routine street cleaning, the team will be looking to remove any fly posting and graffiti.
Council officers will be at Easthope Road car park near the Co-operative supermarket at 10am to meet any volunteers and to give a quick health and safety talk.
Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy cabinet member, said:
“I would like to encourage everyone who can, to come along to get involved in this community litter pick, even if they only have half an hour to spare. This is a wonderful opportunity to tidy the town in time for the tourist season, and the more people that get involved the bigger the impact will be.
“Our teams are committed to improving Shropshire’s environment and I am delighted that we are continuing to support the national Big Tidy Up campaign.”
David Evans, Shropshire Councillor for Church Stretton and Craven Arms, said:
If you would like to organise a community litter pick or report a problem with litter, graffiti or flyposting contact the environmental maintenance teams on 0345 678 9006 or report a problem online at shropshire.gov.uk/environmentmaintenance.nsf
