Elton John concert – parking and travel update

Related topics: Leisure, culture and heritage

Shrewsbury Town Football Club (STFC) and Shropshire Council are delighted to report strong pre-event sales of parking permits to people attending the Elton John concert at the Greenhous Meadow stadium on Sunday 12 June.

Doors will open at 4pm with the support act starting at 6pm.

In line with the event travel plan, attendees have been able to opt for either:

• an allocated space within a 10 minute walk of the stadium, or
• an allocated space at the Oxon Park and Ride site, from which a special service will be running for the event.

The option to pre-purchase any park and walk/park and ride options through STFC has now ended.

Parking restrictions will be in force in all residential areas surrounding the stadium on the evening of the concert.

In order to safely manage event traffic and pedestrians, Oteley Road will be closed to all traffic except specific permit holders from about 3.30pm on 12 June and will remain closed until approximately 11pm that evening.

For those intending to be dropped off and picked up at the event by friends or family, the Golf Course / Bannatynes Gym loop road will be available for this, accessed from Meole Brace Island. Taxi operators have also been briefed about the arrangements in place for the drop-off and pick-up of their passengers at the event.

If you are a Blue Badge holder, travelling by taxi, or getting a lift from a relative or a friend and require access to the stadium, please bring your Blue Badge with you to ensure you are permitted to pass the road closure.

All ticket purchasers have been contacted through the event promoter explaining the requirements for pre-booking parking options. Despite this there may still be some attendees who have not been able to make arrangements over the last few weeks.

In order to avoid unnecessary inconvenience and traffic congestion on the evening, it has been considered prudent to retain a number of spaces at the Meole Brace Retail Park site that will be available for cash sales on the night. The cost per car is £10, cash sales only.

Concert goers wishing to walk to the Oxon Park and Ride service are welcome to do so: a return fare on the bus will be £3 per person.

There will also be limited availability of non-reserved parking spaces on the Oxon Park and Ride site on a first-come-first-served basis, again for those that have not had chance to pre book this option.
