Clun’s High Street cleaned ready for busy tourist season

Residents and visitors can now enjoy a cleaner High Street in Clun, following a successful deep clean by Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance team last week (Tuesday 24 May 2011).

Due to how busy the picturesque street is, the roadsweeper often has difficulty accessing the entire street to remove leaves, moss and dirt.  In order to carry out a thorough clean of the area, residents were asked to find alternative parking whilst works were undertaken.

During the deep clean, the council’s street cleaning warden assisted the contractor Veolia Environmental Services to jet wash and sweep the pavements.

These works have had a big impact along the street.  Several residents kindly made appreciative comments to all involved, congratulating the team on the work carried out. Two walkers visiting from Peterborough said they wished this service happened in their area as it was really brightening the street.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy cabinet member, said:

“I’d like to thank the residents and visitors to Clun for moving their cars so that we could deep clean the road and pavements.  Because of this, Veolia and the street wardens have managed to reach the parts the others couldn’t!

“We’ve collected a lot of debris, but the road and pavements look very much better than they did.  This makes Clun more attractive, and lifts everyone’s spirits.”
