Repair of Dingle Bridge near Middleton Scriven
Work to repair Dingle Bridge, which carries the Middleton Scriven to Oldfield road over a watercourse, is scheduled to start on Tuesday 14 June 2011, and is expected to last for a period of 4 to 5 weeks.
The bridge was closed to traffic on an emergency basis in late February 2011 when one of its wing walls was found to have collapsed, leaving the edge of the road unsupported.
The collapse is thought to have occurred as a result of frost heave during the extreme cold weather experienced in December 2010.
Until the bridge is reopened, traffic is being diverted via Overton and Oldfield.
Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be available throughout the closure period.
Martin Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport and IT, said:
“It is appreciated that the closure of the bridge to traffic is causing inconvenience; however, I hope that people can appreciate that the closure is necessary for safety reasons. Every reasonable effort will be made to reopen it as soon as possible. “
