Big tidy up for Minsterley

Related topics: Community

Shropshire Council is joining forces with Severnside Housing, Minsterley Parish Council, local residents and community payback to carry out a big tidy up in Minsterley next week (Thursday 26 May 2011).

The event, to take place between 9.30am and 2pm, will include a flurry of activities all around the village such as clearing rubbish out of the brook, litter picking, trimming overgrown trees and sweeping pavements and roads.

The removal of rubbish from the brook will help reduce the likelihood of the culvert downstream becoming blocked, therefore reducing the risk of flooding to properties in the area.

Councillor Malcolm Price, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport, said:

“It’s fantastic that everyone will be working together to carry out a thorough clean of the area. When various landowners work together in this co-ordinated way, residents and visitors alike will notice a real difference. I’d particularly like to thank the dedicated volunteers who constantly strive to keep the village clean and tidy.”

Tudor Bebb, Shropshire Councillor for Minsterley, said:

“It is great to see the parish council, Shropshire Council, partners and local residents working together to achieve a tidier village.”

This is being carried out as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign, run by Keep Britain Tidy and is in addition to the council’s routine street cleaning schedule.  Anyone wishing to get involved on the day should report to Callow Crescent by 9.30am, all necessary equipment will be provided.
