Ludford Bridge reopened on 14 April 2011

Ludford Bridge in Ludlow reopened to traffic on Thursday 14 April 2011 following the completion of emergency repairs.

The bridge, which is a scheduled ancient monument, was closed on an emergency basis on 4 January 2011 after part of its downriver elevation collapsed due to frost damage, leaving the edge of the road unsupported.

It had originally been estimated that the bridge would have to remain closed to traffic until Easter.  However, the recent good weather has enabled the repair work to be completed early.

Martin Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport and IT, said:

“It is appreciated that the closure of the bridge has caused significant inconvenience and disruption within the town and I am pleased that it has been possible to reopen the bridge a week earlier than expected.”

The repair work is estimated to cost approximately £110,000.
