Market Drayton inner relief road consultation

Shropshire Council would like to hear people’s views on its proposal to build a new inner relief road for Market Drayton.

Plans will be displayed in the conference room in the Festival Drayton Centre on Wednesday 16 March 2011 from 12noon to 5pm, and Thursday 17 March 2011 from 10am to 8pm.

Representatives from Shropshire Council and its term consultant Mouchel will be on hand at all times throughout the two days to fully explain the proposals and to answer any questions people may wish to raise.

Questionnaires will be available to be filled in, either on the day or to be taken away, which provide useful feedback and opinions on the various aspects of the scheme. The closing date for the consultation and completed questionnaires is 20 April 2011.

The proposals include a new road link between Stafford Street and the top of Phoenix Bank to form a new junction with High Street and Great Hales Street. This would open up a new tract of land for development on either side of the road which would significantly improve an area close to the town centre.

The £2.5 million funding for the project has been secured and, assuming a positive feedback from the consultation, outline planning permission would be applied for later this year.

Councillor Martin Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport and IT, said:

“I’d like to encourage as many people as possible to come along to the exhibitions and view our proposed plans.”
