Kitchen caddy liners now available in south Shropshire
South Shropshire residents keen to recycle their food waste can now buy kitchen caddy liners for use with their garden waste collection.
The caddy liners have tie-top handles which residents have said they prefer as they are easy to tie securely and make food waste recycling easy, clean and convenient.
The liners are being made available by Shropshire Council in rolls of 52. Priced at £3.99 per roll they are available now from the council’s Corve Street offices in Ludlow, the Customer First Point in Church Stretton and Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms.
The liners are fully biodegradable and are accepted in both the white sacks and green wheel bins used for the collection of garden waste, cardboard and food waste.
Councillor Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for waste, said
“We have listened to the requests of residents and we are pleased to be able to respond by making the kitchen caddy liners available for just £3.99 from council premises in Church Stretton, Craven Arms and Ludlow.
“Every household produces food waste and rather than put this into the bin which goes for disposal to landfill, it can instead be included in the garden waste and cardboard collection, where it is put to good use to make compost.”
Rosanna Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow North, said:
“These new bags will be welcomed by those residents who have asked what to use for food waste. I am pleased that Shropshire Council is now able to offer an affordable and hygienic solution which will help increase our recyling rates.”
As the liners are made from cornstarch, they fully biodegrade within the compost-making process, and being a light green colour they are easily recognised as being the correct type by the collection crews.
