Shropshire Council, in partnership with local organisation Shrewsbury Action Against Racism (SAAR), is holding the seventh annual Cultural Diversity Day in The Square in Shrewsbury town centre on Saturday 6 July 2013 from midday – 4pm.

This year’s event promises to be as vibrant and exciting as previous years, with the Oswestry Street Band, belly dancers Bedouin Shiver, a Jewish Klezmer Band and Chinese Lion Dance all performing in The Square throughout the afternoon.  The event will be supported a range of agencies representing Shropshire’s diversity, including the Rainbow Film Festival, the Senior Citizens Forum and Shrewsbury Interfaith Forum, to name a few.

This year SAAR worked in partnership with students from Shrewsbury Sixth Form College and Mount Pleasant School to produce a promotional poster, and raise awareness of the event among children and young people.

Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for diversity, said:

“Cultural Diversity Day has become an event that people look out for each year, as it brings something different to the town and represents the true diversity of Shropshire.”
