Scrooge’s ‘gravestone’ at St Chad’s Church

University Centre Shrewsbury academics are getting people talking about one of the most loved Christmas stories ever published.

The English Department is hosting a free reading group on “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, on Saturday 19 December 2015.

People have the chance to find out more about the classic tale and the TV film made on location in Shrewsbury in 1984, starring George C Scott as Ebenezer Scrooge.

The event will take place at University Centre Shrewsbury’s learning and research base at Guildhall, in Shrewsbury, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

Dr Jude Piesse, English Lecturer, said:

“Come and join us at Guildhall for a friendly discussion on this popular book and its adaptation.

“You might also like to combine the reading group with your Christmas shopping and a visit to Scrooge’s ‘gravestone’ at St Chad’s Church.”

The gravestone prop used in the film remains in the churchyard to this day.

Everyone is welcome, but places are limited, so please book in advance by contacting Dr Piesse at j.piesse@chester.ac.uk.

The full Guildhall address is: Frankwell Quay, Shrewsbury, SY3 8HQ.
