Longden, Ford and Rea Valley LJC on 29 February
Residents of Longden, Ford and Rea Valley were pleased to hear at the Local Joint Committee (LJC) meeting on Wednesday 29 February 2012 that each parish council was to receive a grant of £1,000. It was agreed unanimously that the parish councils be tasked with distributing these funds to community groups holding celebratory events for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Grants were also agreed for Habberley Village Hall (£2,500), Hanwood Village Hall Football Ground (£2,000), Pontesbury Cricket Club (£1,000) and Pontesbury Guide Book (£1,800).
Members of the committee were pleased that young people representing Pontesbury Youth Club attended the meeting in support of their application for funding. The committee commented on the very few non-members of the youth club who had in the past caused problems in the area, and congratulated the police on their actions to stop them. The application was agreed unanimously (£608), as was allocating funds to pay for young people to access public transport during the summer holidays.
Also at the meeting there were presentations from Shropshire Council officers on cardboard and how it could be recycled in the future; and the Localism Bill, with its likely effects in empowering local communities and parish councils.
A member of the public raised concerns about alterations to the bus timetable which meant that some schoolpupils may have to wait a considerable time for transport home. Subsequent to the meeting we were able to inform him that the school transport team had now provided a service which addressed this issue.
Shropshire Councillor Tudor Bebb commented:-
“It was a real pleasure to welcome the public to this meeting and to be able to support so many worthwhile cmmunity projects.
