Closure of Ludford Bridge in Ludlow for essential work
Essential work on the Ludford Bridge in Ludlow is due to start later this month (Sunday 25 March 2012) as part of Shropshire Council’s commitment to investing in the county’s bridges.
The entire section of Ludford Bridge will be closed for six days so that work can be carried out to realign the kerbs.
While this section of road is closed, traffic will be diverted through Ludlow town centre and along the A49, before rejoining the B4361.
Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for bridge maintenance, said:
“While this work is expected to cause some disruption, I hope people will understand that this is essential if the bridge is to remain in a good condition in the future.
“We will do all we can to minimise disruption; we have been liaising with local businesses and will continue to do so. In the meantime, every effort will be made to make sure the bridge is reopened as soon as possible.”
Martin Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow South, said:
“Ludford Bridge is often damaged by large vehicles, which sometimes results in road closure. These improvements will greatly reduce the number of instances in the future.”
