Dinham in Ludlow gets a deep clean

Related topics: Community

Over a tonne of leaves and rubbish were collected along Dinham in Ludlow during the last deep clean of 2011.

Shropshire Council carried out the deep clean on Friday 16 December 2011 between 7.30am and 9.30am.

In order to carry out a thorough clean of the area, the maintenance teams asked residents to find alternative parking whilst work was undertaken, to ensure that the large mechanical sweeper could operate effectively and without disruption.

The clean was necessary due to the nature of the street, with most houses along it not having any off-road parking.  Dinham is also used for parking by many tourists, visitors and shoppers, given its close proximity to Ludlow’s town centre.

Councillor Rosanna Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow North, said:

“I’d like to thank the residents of Dinham who kindly parked elsewhere so that we could clean the road and pavements.  A total 1.084 tonnes of leaves and general detritus was removed, leaving the road and pavement clean and tidy.  Shropshire Council carries out regular deep cleans of Ludlow’s major roads and will be having the next deep clean along Lower Galdeford in Ludlow in March.”

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member, said:

“In 2011, the Streetscene south west team carried out at total of 18 deep cleans.  Across the five market towns and various villages and other rural locations, a total weight of just over 35 tonnes of rubbish was cleared out.  I should like to congratulate the team on a year of hard work, to keep the south west in the condition that everyone, residents and visitors, would expect to find it!”
